AI-powered tools can assist authors throughout the research and publication process by facilitating idea generation, improving language quality, organizing references, summarizing literature, analyzing data, and enhancing manuscript readability.
Recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI provide valuable opportunities to improve research productivity and dissemination. However, AI systems cannot replace human creativity, critical thinking, scientific judgment, ethical responsibility, or accountability for scholarly work. Therefore, INVEST has established this policy to provide guidance for authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies in scientific publishing.
2. Permitted Use of Artificial Intelligence
INVEST permits the responsible use of AI technologies to support manuscript preparation, including but not limited to the following activities:
Language editing and proofreading
AI tools may be used to improve grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, readability, and overall language quality.
Reference management

Plagiarism screening
Authors are encouraged to use AI-supported plagiarism detection software to ensure originality before submission.
3. Prohibited Use of Artificial Intelligence
The following uses of AI are not permitted:
Generation of original scientific content
AI must not be used as the primary creator of the manuscript, including the research hypotheses, literature review, theoretical framework, methodology, interpretation of results, discussion, conclusions, policy recommendations, or scientific claims. These remain the sole responsibility of the authors.
Fabrication or falsification of research
AI must never be used to fabricate data, manipulate figures, generate fictitious references, create fraudulent research findings, or engage in any form of scientific misconduct.

Accuracy verification
Authors must independently verify all references, facts, statistical outputs, numerical values, interpretations, and scientific statements generated by AI systems.
Transparency
The use of AI must be transparently disclosed during manuscript submission.
Appropriate acknowledgment
AI-assisted tools used for language editing, writing assistance, statistical analysis, coding, image generation, literature review, or reference management should be acknowledged appropriately within the manuscript.
An example of disclosure is:
"The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) to assist with language editing and manuscript refinement. All scientific content, analysis, interpretation, and conclusions were independently developed, verified, and approved by the authors."
5. Ethical Considerations
Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, integrity, and scientific validity of their manuscripts, regardless of any AI assistance used during manuscript preparation.
The use of AI must comply with internationally accepted publication ethics and academic integrity standards.
